This July 4, the United States of America will be 249 years old. Why does that matter? A few reasons and let me explain the first: It’s actually one of the youngest countries on Earth. But what makes that even more interesting is if you look at America’s age compared to its GDP output.
Let’s break down the numbers:
GDP: ~$28 trillion
Age: 249 years old
GDP per year of existence: $112.4 billion
No other country on Earth comes close to that when examining the country age with its current GDP. So, America being only 249 years old, and already producing this much GDP, is unheard of on the human time scale.
As Buffett says, “The babies being born in America today are the luckiest crop in history” and this line refreshes each day.
You have to be in awe at the sheer size and scale in such a short period of time. Whether you’re in America or not, it’s simply remarkable to see that much growth, output, and development in just 249 years.
