All of Crypto Is Now Worth More Than All of Apple

A curious shift in markets has occurred – all of crypto is now worth more than all of Apple based on market cap. Markets always have something interesting to show us, as they always have and always will. However, I don’t recall an event happening like this in the crypto space, and thus, we must discuss what it means.

The total cryptocurrency market cap has officially eclipsed that of tech behemoth Apple, standing at $2.66 trillion compared to Apple’s $2.63 trillion.

My first thought: no way this has ever happened before! So, I did a little more research… and then a little more… and actually, it turns it that it has happened in our history, two other other times! Yes, the total market cap of all crypto has surpassed that of Apple at two other points in time.

In 2021, the market cap of all crypto projects exceeded $3 trillion while Apple remained at $2.9 trillion. Today, that same flip is happening once again.

Then, back in 2018, the market cap of all crypto projects exceeded $1 trillion while Apple could not break that level and lagged behind.

The questions I must ask are as follows:

  1. Apple is a cash machine, and its phones and computers and other services are simply the best out there. They’re wildly profitable and quite literally empower crypto to exist in the first place.
  2. At the same time, crypto is all about decentralized technologies, the end of the “middle man” and the start of true privacy without anyone in-between or hosting private files. Thus, you could make the argument that crypto as a whole is building a competitive wave that’ll eventually take Apple down.
  3. Apple’s app store economy alone is just massive. Would I rather own that or own the crypto economy? Do they even compare? dApps vs. Apps, my friends. For the uninformed a dApp is a “Decentralized app.”

I don’t know what this means.

But I am thinking deeply about it.

  1. […] Can you really compare the value of crypto to anything else, like Apple ($AAPL)? (scheplick.com) […]
